Kids Water Bottle Microplastic Database (2026)

14 kids water bottle brands sold in the US, ranked for daily-use microplastic risk. The body material is the dominant variable — 18/8 stainless steel is essentially zero microplastic shedding, Tritan is cleaner than other plastics but still polymer, and polypropylene sippy cups (microwaved or dishwasher-cycled hundreds of times) shed the most. The lid + straw plastic is the secondary variable.

Methodology

  • Body material: pulled from manufacturer spec pages and product packaging. 18/8 (304) stainless is the industry standard for food-grade kids drinkware.
  • Lid + straw plastic: identified from manufacturer photo + spec disclosure. “All-plastic” lids have the most water-contact plastic surface; stainless Chug-style lids have the least.
  • Risk tier: Low = stainless body + minimal lid plastic. Medium = stainless body + plastic lid / straw that contacts water during drinking. High = full-plastic body (Tritan, PP), where the entire drink surface is polymer.
  • Per-sip estimate: There is no peer-reviewed kids-bottle-brand-specific microplastic count. The risk tier is a material-extrapolation from polymer chemistry + temperature exposure + dishwasher wear, not a measured number. The MicroPlastics iOS app combines these inputs into a 0-100 score per specific SKU.
