Does Paper tea bag have microplastics?
The short answer
Usually a small amount, and far less than a mesh bag. Most paper tea bags are heat-sealed, and the heat seal works because polypropylene fibres are blended into the paper web — typically a low single-digit to low double-digit percentage.

What we don't know
Nobody has run the Hernandez experiment on a paper bag, so there is no comparable particle count. We know the polypropylene content is small relative to a full mesh bag and we do not know the release. Brands rarely state the seal type, so "check the box" is genuinely harder advice than it sounds.

Hernandez 2019 (McGill) — A single nylon or PET pyramid tea bag steeped at 95°C released about 11.6 billion microplastic and 3.1 billion nanoplastic particles into one cup.
Limitation: Four commercial bags, brewed empty of tea leaves to avoid interference. The particle count is enormous but the total mass is small, and the study measured release into water, not what happens after you drink it.
