Does Cosmetic glitter have microplastics?
The short answer
Yes, unambiguously — conventional glitter is cut plastic film, usually PET. This is the one category where the answer is not contested: the EU restricted loose microplastic glitter in October 2023 as an intentionally-added microplastic.

What we don't know
Nobody has measured dermal uptake or the dose from a night of wearing it, and honestly nobody needs to for the decision to be clear. The open question is the alternatives: cellulose-based glitters vary in what binds and coats them, and independent testing of those claims is thin.

Zangmeister 2022 (NIST) — Nylon bags, LDPE food-storage bags and similar single-use plastics shed trillions of sub-100 nm particles per litre in ordinary contact with water.
Limitation: Deionised water at controlled temperature. Nanoparticle counts are inherently large numbers; the study is about their existence and quantity, not their fate in the body.

US FDA — States that current scientific evidence does not demonstrate that the levels of microplastics detected in foods pose a risk to human health, while listing detection and characterisation as a research priority.
Limitation: A statement about the state of evidence, not a finding of safety. "Not demonstrated to be harmful" and "demonstrated to be harmless" are different claims, and the agency is explicit that the research is ongoing.
