Does Canned soup have microplastics?
The short answer
Less than a pouch, more than a jar. The can body cannot shed a polymer, but a thin internal liner separates the metal from the food — and the food is cooked inside the sealed can, which is the most migration-favourable moment there is.

What we don't know
Liner composition is proprietary and rarely disclosed, and almost all published work on can liners concerns bisphenols rather than particles. Nobody has counted plastic particles in canned food. What can be said with confidence is the structural comparison: a liner is a far smaller polymer mass than a pouch or a tub.

US FDA — States that current scientific evidence does not demonstrate that the levels of microplastics detected in foods pose a risk to human health, while listing detection and characterisation as a research priority.
Limitation: A statement about the state of evidence, not a finding of safety. "Not demonstrated to be harmful" and "demonstrated to be harmless" are different claims, and the agency is explicit that the research is ongoing.
