Sold for chlorine and hard water, and the microplastics case for one is weak. We are including it to say so: the exposure route in a shower is skin and inhaled aerosol, and neither has been studied enough to justify the claims on these boxes.

Nobody has measured microplastics in shower aerosol, filtered or unfiltered. Several products in this category market against microplastics anyway. If chlorine or skin dryness is your reason, these work; if microplastics is your reason, there is no evidence to support the purchase and we would rather lose the affiliate click than pretend otherwise.

Limitation: A statement about the state of evidence, not a finding of safety. "Not demonstrated to be harmful" and "demonstrated to be harmless" are different claims, and the agency is explicit that the research is ongoing.

Kosuth 2018 — Detected synthetic particles in 81% of tap water samples worldwide, in all 12 brands of beer tested, and in all 12 brands of sea salt.
Limitation: Overwhelmingly fibres, which are as likely to come from airborne contamination during sampling as from the product — the authors say so. It establishes ubiquity rather than any particular source.
